My husband are looking to relocate and considering the Springfield area. We want to be close to a fairly large city and Springfield seems to be large enough. But we do like to be outside of the city a bit--but close enough to get into Springfield within 30 minutes or so. We'd love to find an area that has nice views and a good, small airport for general aviation. Any ideas?

I would recommend you look at Mt Vernon. 45 mile drive to Springfield - but all 4 lane highway. Good luck in your search.

The only small town within 30 minutes of Springfield with its own airport is Bolivar. Mo.

Springfield has general aviation facilities at Springfield Regional (SGF) and a general aviation airport on E. Division (LID). If aviation is important to you it would be hard to beat living in Willard, Mo., a pleasant community of 5,000 people and a 10 to 15 minute drive to SGF.

Why not Nixa? Its just outside Springfield (infact only a couple of miles) I think pop. is about 14,000 and you can use Springfield airport. There is an airport in Branson I hear (about 45 minute drive). Ozark is a nice little town about 10 miles outside Springfield. The closer you get to Branson, the prettier the scenery ( I think).

Nixa, Willard and Ozark spring to mind. Lots of people work in Springfield but live in Nixa. Springfield is a little big town, I don't think it is too bad to live within the city limits, myself.
