sorry dont know area but i love AT&T u verse. data line only. it comes with wifi automatically.
and i use magic jack so no phone service required.
Well, we are coming back March 12 so Paul can see the property on his Spring Break from teaching.
I rented a Verizon MiFi to see how that works for my laptop and iPhone while we're there.
The cable available in Shell Know is SD only. I will want HD when we move there. Not sure if we can get over-the-air reception for the local channels while we are there on short trips, so I may wait as I don't want a 2-year contract when we aren't there.
Well, we bought a house on the lake in Shell Knob! Closing escrow next week. I flew back last month and made the offer -- hubby hasn't even seen it yet (except pictures) as he's a teacher and can't just take off anytime he wants.
Will be using it for vacation until he retires in two years. It will be so nice! Now I just have to figure out tv service just for vacations until we make the final move. I can get CenturyTel phone and internet from what I understand from the neighbors.
I don't know if it would work, but you could get DirecTV at home, add a receiver and take it to the new place. You can probably pick up a used dish to install on a pole outside, temporarily, until you retire, then have the system installed professionally.
Worst case is having to pay for a new setup, only using it when you are there.
I have DirecTv here now. I am thinking about having a dish installed at the new place and taking one of my receivers with me if we are staying longer term.
The issue with that is that I have heard you have to transfer service and that would leave the house here without tv--for the housesitter or even if my DH stayed here while I'm there.
I haven't talked to DTV about this yet but that's what I have gathered. Next time we're there I will talk to a local DTV installer and get their thoughts and suggestions. I just don't want to be paying for full service at both homes for just a few days/weeks usage in Shell Knob until we retire there.
If you can get a non DTV person to install the dish, and you bring a working receiver from home, the only way I could imagine it would not work is if the dish electronics has a serial number that has to match the stream of info coming down. I don't think it does. The receiver does not transmit back to the satellite. Install the dish where it is not visible from the road. There may be ways they can travel through the neighborhood and search for local oscillators(part of the receiver circuitry) in operation, but if you are only there a couple weeks a year, it would be unlikely you would get caught. Even if they did, would they want to risk losing you as a customer? They might even have an affordable solution for this situation to keep their customers happy.
Congrats on your new home! I'm in Cape Fair with DISH and DSL via CenturyLink and it's the most reliable Internet I've ever had.
You're lucky. We live 4 miles north of Cape Fair and there is NO DSL available and NO cable. We're just 1 mile from Walnut Springs where the DSL ends. The only option available to us is cell phone air card or satellite.
AT & T works ok but Verizon works better. T-Mobile works also as long as you are at the back of the house, or outside.
I just built a place in Golden, Mo, Close to the Big M Marina, (South of Shell Knob) I was able to get CenturyLink DSL installed and it works well. I will say the person I contacted was very nice and had no idea where the location was, but took down all the directions and sent a service guy out to the place to see if it was available. It was so they ran an entire new line off the trunk. I was very happy with their customer service.
