We are finally moving to the country in North Springfield and I'm needing a 55 gallon burn barrel by November. Any ideas where I can get a cheap one without having to drive 45 mins or more out? Thanks!

Is there a statute that requires you to use a barrel? I live rurally and find barrels very restrictive, especially for burning windfall.

We're renting, unfortunately. The landlady asked that we use a barrel...

What I've done is cut out the bottom of the barrel, put thick mesh wire on the base and keep it off the ground by setting it on bricks. It creates a good draw for a good burn, there's far less ash and the barrel lasts a long time that way.

Check craigslist and newspaper classifieds.

Might check the Fair Grove swap meet - there is a guy there that sells them with lids for $15. And there are adds in Craigslist for cheaper than that. Good luck in your new place

Thanks for the info! I've checked Craigslist, but they're all about an hour away from me. I really can't see driving that far for a barrel...any other resources would be great! Thanks!
