We are wanting to relocate, but I have not seen much work listed. How is the job outlook in Springfield healthcare? Are the wages good? We are coming in Jan to check out the area. Anyone work at the local hospitals? I am a respiratory therapist and my husband works in maintanance.

Check Out Springfield And Branson. There Are Major Hospitals In Both Cities And They Are Within 1 Hr. Of Each Other.

You Could Move To Highlandville And Be In The Center Between Both Town. Springfield And Branson Hospitals Can Be Reached Within 15-20 Minutes From Highlandville.

This Area Is Growing In Leaps And Bounds From Newbies Moving In The Area. There Should Be Plenty Of Work, Especially In Branson.

Many of the jobs out here are in the healthcare field. Big hospitals and healthcare teaching colleges in Springfield. Springfield/Ozark are nice areas with affordable housing.

Lots of small towns if your looking for that within 10-30 miles of the area if you want smaller town. Lots of opportunity for "country living" in the nearby areas. Springfield is a small city with lots to offer if the city is your thing.

Branson has a hospital and several healthcare facilities, but Springfield is the biggie.
Branson also has a lot of seasonal work where as Springfield is more stable with year round employement.

Can't speak to the salaries...I"m from California and Las Vegas so everything here seems pretty low to me.

Some of my friends are nurses and therapists. Our daughter-in-law is a physical therapist. Since this is a strong college area and there are alot of interns fresh out of college it causes the wages to be lower than you would expect. Times are changing though and they are making some positive wage changes.

Having been in management for years in the past in various theaters in Branson my colleagues say that Branson is only in a down time for approximately 3-4 weeks nowadays, so Branson has become more permanent in employment.

Therapists and maintenance people usually have steady employment.

Default Quality of living...

My opinion is that we trade off bigger salaries for the opportunity to live in the coolest place on earth.

Least'wise that's how it's workin' out for me...

Wink Medical field

The medical field is huge in Springfield. There are 20,000 + people employed in the medical field . And St johns & Cox are always looking for professional medical folks. Im not sure if you would be intersted in working at a hospital or smaller clinic. My wife works @ Cox, and loves the co-workers and the patients. Wages are a bit lower from what she is used to, but the cost of living in this area is lower also. The quality of life here is tops! That is worth something to us. Enjoy your visit!

These are the two major hospitals in Springfield...
St. John's: St. John's Health System
Cox: Cox Health - Improving the health of our community through quality health care.

I think St. John's is the area's largest employer.

Yes, I just checked... St. John's #1 and Cox is #2

You can find that and other helpful info here...
Demographics (http://www.business4springfield.com/demographics/ - broken link)

I'm guessing each of the hospitals do all of their own job listings so that may be why you are not seeing much. Check their websites for the openings.
