We are buying a company in Missouri and are going to base out of the Springfield area.

We currently live in Louisiana and put our home up for sale. We currently have horses on 60 acres. We want to find something to rent short term (6 months to a year) while the house sells to give us time to decide where we want to be. We know nothing about the city and would like some time to see for ourselves what our options are. IT seems like everyone we speak with has a different opinion on the best place to build/buy.

Ultimately, the best case scenario would be to find something to lease in the country with some acreage to put the horses now; however, we understand may not be an option. We may have to leave them with family while we build or buy. Are there any sites or suggestions to find rentals outside the city limits?

Any help would be appreciated.

Melanie

Craigslist, of course. The Sunday newspaper still has quite a few rental ads. An acreage for rent may well appear on mulitlist (see Greater Springfield Board of REALTORSĀ® | ). Springfield is in Greene County, but you could locate in parts of Ozark, Christian, Polk, Webster, or Dallas counties and have a not unreasonable commute giving you a wider potential selection.

Possibly the reason that you get different opinions on the best areas is differing definitions of "best". Best for schools, best for convenience to shopping, best for most land for the dollar, best for commuting, best for... what?

Ozark, just outside of Springfield, has a lot of horse country. Polo anyone?

Default Horse boarding?

You may look into boarding them as an option. There are several of those around the springfield area. Sac River Stables out towards Willard is one. Also Valley Water Mill Park to the North of town. I would imagine craigs list or local restaurants may have adds as well for folks looking to lease out some property. I will keep my eyes open if you would like. Feel free to e-mail me how many acres you would need and any other specifics and I will hunt something down.

@Wildcountrysafari

I've just purchased a 6 acre lot 30 min from Springfield in Webster County that's on Cantrell Creek in the High Prairie Township of Niangua, MO as an investment piece and I noticed there are few restrictions on horses and even trailers are ok on the land. There may be somebody out that way that has a fenced property ready to go but if you have trouble finding a place, PM me, maybe we can work out a business arrangement that benefits us both. I hadn't thought about fencing it in for horses to attract horse owners so thanks for the idea and best wishes on your move.

Default Trailers ok?

I noticed your post says trailers are ok on property. Are there any RV or mobile home parks? And just to make sure, there are no bans on Pitt Bulls as there are in Springfield?
My husband is an electrician & is currently looking for work in that area.

If you get out of Greene county (Springfield) you will find regulations much more relaxed. Unless you head down to the Branson area. I am sure lots of regs down there.

Lots of places to put an RV or a trailer, if you run an ad on craigslist asking for a place to stay with your rv and horses I am confident you will get multiple replies.

Good luck, you will love it here.
