I almost hate to do this because politics can be so divisive and I don't want to start a flame war but I'm considering moving to Branson next spring and my research suggests that real estate prices have not recovered like many other parts of the country. This leads me to wonder if the community is struggling, so I looked up some government websites and found cityofbranson dot org.

There is a ton of information including audio recordings of the Board Of Aldermen meetings.

I was a bit concerned about something I just heard in the most recent recording and wanted to see if there was any reason to dwell on it, or should I just let it go.

Apparently the board has decided to buy three military-themed statues from a local museum for $1,000,000 and then they indicated they would go into storage because they didn't have a use for them at this time. It honestly sounded a bit uneven with very few details of the negotiation provided. Are they just playing fast and loose with taxpayer money, or maybe this is a brother-in-law deal to funnel cash to a campaign supporter, friend or family member?

The biggest statue (50-man) was donated to the museum so while it might be appraised at wildly different values depending on who you ask, it seems a bit generous for the board to toss around $1,000,000 of taxpayer dollars like that when that statue could almost certainly be gotten for far less.

If the city is overflowing for cash, forget I mentioned it but if not ...

Also - I don't know if Bransonites vote or get involved in politics (in Vancouver, WA voter participation is around 30%) but I can't seem to stay away. Any suggestions on websites, facebook groups, etc. that I can start monitoring or participating in concerning local Branson civic activities and issues would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I suggest you visit the 1branson forum, there are tons of locals and tourists alike who use the forum to chat. You will learn alot about the area. I have lived in branson my entire life and my family has been around the area for a long time. If you join the forum my name is bransonguy1988! I will say the cost of living in branson is very reasonable. I recently bought my first home. ..its just a modest 1 bedroom condo. I bought it for $28,000. Also I assume the statues probably came from the local veterans museum. They have been in financial distress for some time now.
