Hello all! My husband and I (same sex couple) recently visited my father and the rest of my family in Springfield. We currently live in the very outer suburbs of Houston. My husband likes the small city atmosphere in Houston and would like to live near my family. He is a Network Administrator and I am in healthcare. How accepting would people be of a gay married couple in Springfield? I can’t imagine we would be welcome with open arms, but I’m curious if people are more accepting here than I think. Thanks y’all!

Hi there, I live in St. Louis, but have visited Springfield many times. I know they have a very large gay community, and a few bars downtown. They host a pride festival every year so I suspect that the city is pretty familiar with the LGBT community.

By and large, I have found Missouri to be surprisingly tolerable. I was raised in a rural area in Northeast Missouri, and since leaving most have come to learn about me. People are pretty respectful, if we are as well. I am not sure if that makes sense. Anyhow, if you decide to move, you will have a much more pleasant summer, although winter will be a little colder and ice / snow are definite possibilities.

I doubt you'll raise any eyebrows. Folks in that part of the country are pretty HO-HUM about same sex couples.

I'm straight but have gay friends and family in the Springfield area. They don't have any problems with anyone as far as I know.
As far as Mo. is concerned for gay couples, I'd stay out of the SE part but everywhere else in Mo. seems to be okay.
