So I'm thinking about relocating...I've lived in Chicago, Jonesboro, and now Wichita...Now I'm thinking Missouri, Springfield to be exact. So what are the worst areas in Springfield cause every city has them. What about low income based housing(I'm disabled) all my kids are grown so I'm not looking for schools but I don't mind areas with schools i would love just somewhere quiet, laidback, close to stores and restaurants with good food and public transportation(i don't drive)with friendly people around me...Can I find that in Springfield Missouri or am I asking too much.

I currently live in the Robberson neighborhood (north side). It's aptly named. There are robbers, son. Seems like there's a dozen cops on our road every week. There's a house burned down at the end of the road...arson by drug addicts. There's an alley where drugs are sold. There's constantly people screaming and fighting on the other side of the road. There's a 10 year old on a bike who sells drugs. The house right next door to mine got broken into just a week ago. And from what she told me (my neighbor who got burglarized- one of the few decent people here) there is a violent gang nearby. I haven't encountered them myself, I hope never to. The crime rate is EXTREMELY high in this part of town.

That said. Even in the worst places, there are decent people. I've always had at least one neighbor I could trust, even as a "north sider." What you're looking for might be better served somewhere on the south side or in small satellite towns like Nixa or Battlefield. So I don't mean to scare you away with that description of my neighborhood. I think mine's about as bad as it gets. We'll be moving once our lease is up, out of this AWFUL neighborhood. But if you find one of the "better" neighborhoods, it should be fine.

Kerguelen is right, the north (especially northwest) is the toughest area in Springfield. I never travel there alone without my spouse present, just to be safe. You'd be best off in the southeast; property crime is high here, but it's mostly car break-ins from people who don't lock their doors or put their cars in their garages at night (you mentioned you don't drive, so this wouldn't be an issue for you). Nixa is a nice satellite town. The cost of living here is pretty good, so hopefully you could find affordable housing. Be sure to avoid 417 Rentals and Chris Gatley, though -- he's an infamous slumlord who makes negative local headlines all the time here (houses with feces, etc.). There's a bus system that operates through much of the city, so you should be able to find public transportation.

417 Rentals is filing for bankruptcy. I seriously hope that Gatley is forced to sell his business as he don't belong managing apartments.

Like anyplace there are good parts of town and bad. Stay away from the North side, and you should be ok. My advice is to stay south of Sunshine.

Best of luck. You will be amazed how inexpensive housing is here.
