Theirs churches everywhere in my town, you're going to be pretty bored around here if you don't attend church. Christians don't socialize with Atheists for the most part, it's just a part of our beliefs. But if they do come to church then we give them a warm welcome.

But towns without a church seem to me to be more clannish and ruder.

Again, and with all due respect to other perspectives, the Branson area is different. Not like any other small town anywhere...in SO many ways! (Where else do you run into Elvis or Mickey Gilley at the Thai joint???)

We might be familiar with different sections of the Bible Belt, but that's not something I've noticed. Perhaps in tiny communities of a few hundred people. Even then...
Just like anywhere, people find social outlets regardless.

I'm trying to remember ever seeing a town without a church at all.
Maybe one or two of those "few hundred people " communities, but 99.9% of the time there's a church within a short distance, probably equivalent to across town in a bigger place.

Big cities offer better anonymity, but small towns can be incredibly lonely.
