Hello Everyone!!!

I am curious as to what school district you think is best around Springfield? I was thinking about a 50 mile radius. I can't wait to get your input. I think we have decided on the Springfield area instead of SW Missouri. We just got back from a trip and we both liked it in the area. Wow how Branson has grown since 15 years ago!!!!!

My husband has lived in Alaska for 40 years. I have been here 14. We have 3 children 1,4,6. I love Alaska!! But all of our family is in "the lower 48" I want to be closer to family..but not tooo close. haha We have family in TN, IL, LA, TX...We thought Missouri would be in the middle....pluse we love the people in MO. THey are alot like Alaskans. We will keep our trailer here in Alaska to visit in the summer months July and August...to beat the heat.

Anyway back to my point. We were curious as to what school districts were good and which ones to stay away from. Your input would be great!!!

I hate to sound like a broken record, but this question has been asked quite a few times already. I'm sure that a quick search would give you a lot of information to work with. Then more specific questions could be fielded by the locals who have first-hand experience with the districts that you're most interested in.

On a side note, a move from Alaska to Springfield must be quite a change of pace! How's life in the last frontier?

Nixa, Missouri (Christian County - between Springfield and Branson), has one of the best school systems in the entire country. An acquaintance of mine relocated from Louisiana to Nixa SPECIFICALLY so that his daughter could pursue an advanced program there. Their entire system has won awards and recognition from scholastic organizations nationwide. If this was an important consideration for my family, I would definitely look into it.

Ozark, Nixa, Republic, and Willard would be first on my list. Only because they are small towns that have enough resources to offer many programs.

I don't think there are any districts around that I think are bad. It's just that the towns under 5000 have less resources to offer many different programs. They still have good school systems with great teachers and community support.

Apparently you are not familiar with Galena. The only school district featured on America's Most Wanted. Just kidding on that, but I do know SEVERAL parents who live in the Galena school district to PAY to have their kids go to Crane (high school). I'm really not sure what the problem is but if I had kids they wouldn't be going to that school.

Galena's problem has been and always is drugs. Its close proximity to Ponce de Leon and other Meth hamlets lends testimony to that. Crane has always been the better school district in the area.

Default Which Schools would be bad or Good.

Nixa and Ozark I' think with all the people moving there those schools are going if not already going to have problems not to mention over populated which Teachers will not be able to Devote as much attention or time to each child." Plus Nixa has had Drug problems in its schools as far back as over 20 years ago." The Number One school System to Stay away from would Be the Springfield schools !!! Republic Schools is already over Populated' Willard Missouri Just North west from Springfield Would be a very good School system to Trust your Children with." Walnut Grove Is also a Good school' Walnut Grove School is Not Over Populated and They have some really Good teachers' Walnut Grove is allot like Mayberry On the Andy Griffith Show, The town of Walnut Grove has about ZERO Crime rate. Its a very peace full town' Back to the School' The Teachers have more time to devote to Your child since the classes are very small and the security at the school is very tight' They have Security Cams in the halls and Lunch room and they keep a close watch on who comes and goes. Plus the Police Department is Right around the corner. also The Fire Department' So its a very safe school." Fair Grove North east of Springfield also would be a good school. Plus Ash Grove Schools in Ash Grove which is not far from Walnut Grove is also a Good School."

If I had kids I would send them to private schools over any local schools regardless of the cost. I was in Willard public schools for a few years of grade school. My mom swiched me to catholic schools during 3rd grade. I went from being a kid that was in remedial reading classes and nearly failing each grade at public schools to taking AP classes by high school and going on to get an engineering degree so thats why I have very little respect for public schools.

Before this gets taken out of context, Nixa doesn't have any more of a "drug problem" than any other school in the area. Your post is quite misleading and shows a huge bias toward smaller school systems. There's nothing wrong with the towns that you mentioned, but people should definitely take your post with a grain of salt. Nixa is one of the top school districts in the entire state for a reason...
