My husband and I moved here about a year ago, we seem to be having a hard time meeting anyone our ages that are done raising their children and are ready to have fun, like fishing, boating, and camping. I guess it must be the times, We work 5 and a half days a week and like to do these things on the weekends but are missing our friendships we use to have were we lived before. We are not church attendees, we usually do our praying on the lake. lol,

Hang out at Bass Pro Shop!!

Go to a popular campground near the lake.

Do you like theatre? Springfield Little Theatre probably needs volunteers.

No offense, but that's the last place that I'd go. Bass Pro is packed full of tourists, not local outdoor enthusiasts.

To the OP: The best way to meet people with common interests is to talk with people while you're out doing what you enjoy. You could also check in at some of the smaller local retailers that sell camping and boating equipment. They might host events or know about local clubs that you and your husband may enjoy.

ditto the suggestion to look into local clubs. Also, consider volunteer work. There are volunteer opportunities in every possible aspect of life, and you are sure to meet some great people.
You say you like camping...I have always found that is a great way to meet people. Campers are so friendly.

Talking Ditto the ditto...

Absolutely ditto the camping idea! I've made friends at work, at the grocery store, in the neighborhood. Look around your block for other people with boats......and find a reason to stop & strike up a conversation!

This forum is an excellent place to make friends, also, by the way! We started a coffee club and some of my best friends are from there. Why not start a camping or fishing club? I guarantee you there's other people out there like you just wishing someone would.

Asking the question is a great start!
