We just sold our home in Phoenix. Will have around 30,000 to put down on our next home. We are thinking Ozark, MO. OR the outskirts of Springfield. Don't have young kids so we don't have to worry about good schools etc. Is it possible to get a home, land (1-5 acreage) 3 bedroom, 2 bath, and a basement for around 150,000??? I'm scared we won't find the home we want.

yeah, that wont be a serious hurdle. out here in the county, there is a 3 acre minimum lot size in most cases. look in Highlandville,nixa, clever and such.

Greater Springfield Board of REALTORS Springfield MO Real Estate Main Page and look at the property listings in this area. Finding a 3/2 home with a basement and 1-5 acres for $150k shouldn't be a problem. Finding one that you like for that price may be a different matter, depending on where you want to live. Nixa and Ozark are going to cost you more than just about any other location in the area, but I would certainly look around anyway. You may find exactly what you want. Otherwise, check out Sparta, Willard, Highlandville, Clever, Fair Grove, Republic and Rogersville. In general, you find lower prices in the towns north of Springfield (Willard, Fair Grove).

Do you need to be close to Springfield? (job, relatives?) If not I definitely suggest looking further south. I also suggest looking on the west side of the stretch between Springfield and Branson (Hwy 160) as opposed the east side (Hwy 65). Highway 65 gets all the holiday traffic between Branson and I44 and can be a pain during the summer, plus it's like driving on a roller coaster (so many hills!) I get terrible gas mileage driving on that highway. Driving on 160 is much more pleasant, and you also don't have to put up with all of those uuuugggglllllyyyyy billboards that the property owners along 65 have put up!
