I have found 2 nice homes in 2 different areas of Springfield, and would appreciate any remarks on the neighborhoods. The first is in what is called the "Southern Hills" area and the other (my favorite house) is in the "Lakewood Village". Any observations, such as shopping, medical, etc. Thanks!

In my opinion, there isn't enough of a difference between the two areas to matter.

I agree with 8 Snake, if you are in love with the house in Lakewood Village, the two are so similar that you should just go with that. Either is only going to be about 5 minutes away from a hospital. Southern Hills would be close to St. John's and Lakewood would be close to Cox South. Lakewood would be closer to golf courses and parks, and is right on the city limits so it would be closer to undeveloped natural areas, whereas Southern Hills is getting closer to the center of town. Both are about equal distance to the mall, but I think Lakewood would be a bit closer to a Walmart. Both are really close to grocery stores. Both are in very safe areas.

Go with the house you love. Either neighborhood will be convenient.
