Were looking for a area where young professionals go. Like the classic row of bars that every city has where they go on weekends and live close to. Not really looking for the downtown area where everyone goes like tourist, trashy people, and everyone else. Like if anyone knows chicago it would be like Wrigleyville/Lincoln park vs the Loop.

Also the exact street intersections would be good since we know nothing about STL

I'm sure you'd rather visit bars that are nearby, as opposed to all the way across the metro area. So, I must ask, in what part of town will you be staying--- Near the airport? In West County? Clayton? South?

Central West End (lots of bars along Euclid Ave) or Soulard (Russell Blvd and surrounding streets east of the highway).

I agree with the Euclid call. Make sure you hit Sub Zero!

  • Central West End (CWE) (Euclid, around Maryland): Many pubs, Sub Zero, Drunken Fish, beautiful neighborhood.
  • Delmar Loop (Delmar, between Kingsland and Rosedale): Bluberry Hill, Pin-up Bowl, Moonrise Roof, Pi, The Delmar.
  • South Grand (S. Grand between Arsenal and Utah)
  • Soulard (Don't know exact streets)
  • The Grove (Manchester, between Newstedt and Sarah): Atomic Cowboy
That is everything that is not downtown (but is better than downtown). You can also venture into Clayton. Delmar Loop, South Grand, and The Grove will be more indie/alternative. CWE will be more upscale and Soulard just has its own vibe. Delmar Loop will be the busiest. As for which area is best, imo, CWE and Delmar Loop. Soulard is very cool though, and I love the Atomic Cowboy in The Grove.

Edit: Apparently I missed the "Young Professionals" part before posting above. Definitely Central West End then, and probably Soulard too. Would definitely still do the rooftop of the Moonrise though in the Delmar Loop. Might also want to explore Clayton, MO.

In Soulard you have to sort of meander around a bit, but if you just walked around the relatively small area bounded by Russell, 8th St, Lafayette, and I-44, you could probably hit 10 or more comfortable dive bars. You might make some friends too. Soulard is a French colloquialism meaning "drunkard," so the neighborhood is aptly named.

Thing is we have several classic rows of bars that every city has.

Soulard is great, but here's another suggestion...
I would start out in the Central West End (bar loui, bar italia, sub zero, mandarin, drunken fish etc) then at 1 head east to Washinton Avenue downtown (flannery's, side bar, hair of the dog, mosaic lounge, etc etc). If you want to stay away from the touristy area, maybe stay away from the Landing.

I agree with this too. The LANDING is the bad, drunken college student, tourist trap downtown. Washington has a lot to offer and is a totally different crowd. Something for everyone...
