I know there's been discussions here about the east side, and if this is repetitive at all I apologize and please direct me to a good thread to read. We are going to spend a weekend visiting the racetrack and St. Louis in Sept. I am looking at the cluster of hotels in Fairmont City and at the intersection of 64 and 157 - those seem like our only options not too far from either destination. Do you recommend one of those areas over the other, or are they both basically the same? Thank you.

I would really reconsider staying in Fairmont City if I were you, it is very dangerous.

Is there a reason you need to be equidistant from both locations? Downtown St. Louis and the race track are really only about 20 minutes away from each other.

Also, I'll admit I'm not super familar with the area, but is it really "very dangerous?" Not nice, sure? Probaly not the best place to stay? Maybe. I'm sure there is some spillover crime from EStL, but I have never gotten the impression that it's all that dangerous and even City-Data's crime stats say the same.

Why not just stay in downtown St. Louis? Much nicer hotels, more to do, more to see, etc.

that's what we're gonna do.....we found out how dog-friendly St. Louis is, and we'll only be at the track one day. Thanks!

Good choice. It's a real quick drive from downtown to the track. If you need somewhere to take your pup for the day let me know and i'll give ya a few recommendations.
