As long as the buildings don't exceed the height of the Arch, they're not really competing with it for attention, are they?
I do think a more dense backdrop of buildings would complement the Arch and give downtown a larger appearance.

^Hey, I'd gladly welcome a half-dozen more 30-story buildings downtown! And there are existing available locations to put them: They're called parking lots. More density!!

I wouldn't be surprised to see an 80-90 story building rise up this decade.

While were at it i'd love to see the hideous Kiener garages beautified and finally built upon.

I'm glad you are not in the planning or design industry.

An 80-90 story building would ruin the StL skyline and turn it into an ugly skyline where one building dominates the skyline and makes the rest of the skyline seem much smaller and less impressive than it was before.

A couple of 50-60 story buildings in StL would look great though!

Agreed ... we (I say we like I still live there) need to grow the skyline, but by width, not height.

Beyond that, skyscrapers make for office buildings - not too functional for the general public beyond looks (although I would still like to see a couple more 50-60 story as you suggest). Personally I'd worry more about rehabbing low/mid rises though in downtown's ghost area (for looks and a continued urbanism movement) - as seen from Tucker and westward beyond. These become condos, retail, night scene, etc ... and function well for the general public. Was in New Orleans last week, and love how the downtown/quarter functions. High rises look good as a backdrop, but the low/mid rises just east/south of the business district is what makes the district flourish with actual people.

Why aren't there pictures of the St. Louis skyline taken from the South? It would be interesting to see.

I think this is a pretty good view. In real life at least:
st louis mo - Google Maps

There's downtown to the right, Midtown right infront of you, CWE to the left, and I think you can see Clayton on the far left. It's cool to see in person because you can see the skyline on 3 sides of you.

Nice view! I've never seen the skyline east-west, now I'm left with more questions. If you want to fill out the skyline from this view in addition to the popular north-south riverfront view:

Where exactly do you build and how big do you build? Aren't there some zoning(?) issues with building in midtown and the cwe? I'm imagining buildings filling in both parts of the skyline, maximizing their location.
