Suburban Journals | News | Compton Hill Water Tower offers spectacular sights (http://suburbanjournals.stltoday.com/articles/2010/10/07/south/news/1006sc-tower0.txt - broken link)

Quote:
Tours, organized by the Water Tower and Park Preservation Society, are available on the first Saturday of each month from April to November for $5.
And this sounds fantastic:

Quote:
If a night visit is more to your liking, the water tower will be open for full-moon viewings Oct. 23 and Nov. 21, giving visitors the chance to take in a sunset and the beauty of a moonlit St. Louis sky from a rare angle.

Never been to the top but I do go to the park around it quite often. It is a really amazing structure.

The view from the top looks really amazing. Pics courtesy of Skyscraperpage forum user STLeric:

I went up to the top on the tower earlier this year. The view is quite amazing. Try to go on a clear day. It was just a bit hazy, we could see pretty good, but my pics didn't turn out quite as good as I would of liked.
Remember, it is a bit of a hike up there, but if you need to, there are places to stop and catch your breath. I am 35, been smoking for 21 years and had no problem, but there is no way my parents who don't smoke but Pops has bad knees and Mom has back/hips issues would ever make it up and back down.
