Hello everyone! I currently live in Springfield, MO but will be moving to St. Louis soon. I have visited St. Louis many times, but I am at a loss when it comes to picking a neighborhood to live in. A few things about me ~ I will be teaching at UMSL - so a decent commute to campus would be wonderful. We have two children (ages 10 and 5). We are thinking about renting for a year while we make sure we like the area we choose.

Any suggestions of areas to focus on or avoid? Thanks!

I lived in Springfield for a few years, love that town. Lets see, the best commute to UMSL would probably be Creve Couer, Maryland Heights or Brentwood. All safe areas and within 20 minutes of UMSL.

Maryland Heights/Creve Coeur would be perfect for you. Safe, affordable, nice community, and close to UMSL.

If you share a bit more about the kinds of neighborhoods you like (Walkable? Newer? tree-lined? Older? etc) and your budget we could probably give you more targeted suggestions.

I've been a real estate agent / broker for quite some time, working with people that buy or sell in the central corridor of the St. Louis County. It would probably take a brief conversation to help you determine some good options. I myself am the mother of 5 children, and I live in a small area just west of downtown (we're a 15 minute drive from UMSL). Since you want to rent until you get situated, I'd be happy to share some suggestions and point you in the right direction. This is a good time to rent, and renting will provide you with the opportunity to test out a market before commiting to buying.

Let me know if interested and we can arrange to talk for a few minutes on the phone.
