I am looking for businesses and individuals to develop a St. Louis area chapter of the Green Business League. Does the level of attention a business pays to sustainability effect your buying choices?

I work for a wholesale manufacturer that sells through a distributer network on 5 continents. We've done market research for years on this topic. For 2 years we even ran our entire facility off of renewable energy credits through Ameren's Pure Power wind power program.

Here we the questions we posed to our resellers...

Are you interested in "green" products? Yes, Absolutely!
Are your customers interested in "green" products? Yes, of course!
Are you or your customers willing to pay a premium for "green" products? No, not at this time.

Hope this helps.

Depending on the industry, when you can sell green as "safer for my family" I think it's easier to take some serious market share.

Have you seen this site?: Home Page | St. Louis Green They have a listing of "green" companies.

Vertegy would be a good candidate. They are the part of Alberici Construction/Alberici Group that consults on green buildings and projects all over the world. They are also housed in a LEED certified green building at
Page and 170.

Moorelander - Thank you for your reply. All too often the focus is placed on the purchase of products to make up a businesses desire to have a green reputation. Although this is a piece of the pie, the real impact factor is in how it operates. I too am a member of Pure Power and I really feel it is a great program, but if I don't pay attention to my energy usage, I am not only wasting eco resources, I am wasting my own money. Same is true for any business. Every vendor has a green option these days, but the one that engages their customers on the subject of how it improves their practices is the one that is going to win. Your Thoughts?

aragx6 - Greener for my family is always a hot topic but greener for my pocketbook is right up there too. I am familiar with St Louis Green. They are a great organization that provides a lot of helpful service and information to the community.

dogtownBnR - Vertegy is also an interesting group. A lot of their focus is on LEED standards. LEED is an awesome program for the design buildings and their systems, but is only obtainable financially for about 3% of U.S. businesses.

Thank you all for your replies and look forward to continuing the discussion!
