Food Truck Fridays this coming Friday, looks like the last event had about 800 people show up:

^Sounds like some good stuff^

Maybe it'll catch on to the point where they either have it more often or end up with something more permanent.

Around my neighborhood here, they have several spots (privately owned, not at a city park) with several different food trailers at each place along with a place to park and picnic tables with umbrellas. BYOB is allowed and taken advantage of. One even puts out a keg every so often for the customers. There's a wide variety of choices. Thai, authentic Mexican, "Tex-Mex", Greek, etc. There are also ones that specialize in things from desserts to locally grown and raised foods. Maybe it would catch on in St. Louis.

I think to make it successful is if the trailers had a variety of different foods that people are willing to try out vs. the carnival type fare (Burgers, dogs, etc.).

Gourmet/ethnic food trucks have been around for many years in KC but this official gathering festival thing for gourmet food trucks is curious, which has been going on for Xroads First Fridays for a while and now Westport gatherings. Don't seem to have any backlash as they don't seem to be harming restaurants.

Westport actually charges from some food truck fests, which is really odd because they are often on the street anyway. Though the events have live music too.

^Xeno, that's exactly why we didn't go! Why should I pay $5 to get into a cordoned off area on a public street so that I can buy food from a food truck that's in business on a regular basis??

What's with KC's expensive festivals anyway? I just bought Air Show tickets on Groupon yesterday for HALF OFF and still spent $12.50 each! (Stupid SO of mine loving planes ...) -- hell Riverfest for the 4th of July wasn't a free event! It's depressing, and I can't figure out if it's a symptom or a cause of the lack of civic pride I see so regularly in KC.

I guess I'm just a spoiled St. Louisan/Chicagoan -- those two cities have more free festivals than a girl could know what to do with!

Saw an interesting presentation at a conference 2 weeks ago.
A city made a mobile/web application where people could register where and when they would like to have a food truck, and what type of food they would like.
That information was compiled by the city and passed on to permitted food truck vendors. The vendors used the information to great success, and the number of complaints about food trucks dropped considerably.
