what hotel would you recommend to stay at or near airport is fine too... a decent area of town is a must! I was also wondering about good eateries!

The Country Inn & Suites is in downtown St. Charles and is walking distance to all the cute antique shops, restaurants and bars of Main Street St. Charles.

Trailhead is a good spot down there -- their food isn't stunning per se, but they're also a brewery and their beers are quite good. Lewis and Clark is their sister restaurant, though I like the ambience of Trailhead better.

If the weather is nice, sit out on the Winery of the Little Hills' outdoor patio/grotto. Great people watching! You can also walk along the riverfront park and see how high the MO river is getting.

There are a ton of bar and grill type places, with varying quality of food. RT Weiler's has pretty good burgers and they have this alcoholic bartender who's created some totally crazy drinks.

Talayna's has some of the best St. Louis-style thin crust pizza on the planet, but I'd suggest take out as the inside is not much to write home about. And they still allow smoking -- as do pretty much all the bars and restaurants you'll find -- but have like no circulation in their little DR so it just hangs around. But seriously, the pizza is good.

If you like to do a bit of gambling, the Ameristar Casino is right down the street.

You could stay at one of the hotels in Westport, there are several restaurants and its not too far from the airport.

one of the few good things in Saint Louis is the metro rail that runs from the Airport to Downtown (but not into Saint Charles). My friends like the Renaissance Grand Hotel, Downtown.

The hotels near the Airport are typical airport hotels (conventioneer land) with late 1980s decor.

plenty of restaurants in the area. Mostly the generic franchise joints. Lombardos is decent enough.

Regarding Saint Louis style Pizza: Its not for everyone, so beware. Locals seem to love it. If you think you may like something that tastes like cheeze whiz on a burnt ketchup covered matzoh, you may like it.
