I have lived in Deb place and like it but agree with the other comments that you will give up a lot of walkability compared to downtown, CWE, or some other neighborhoods. While Deb Place was nice I would have prob moved to another neighborhood sooner than I did since I like being within walking distance to a lot of places.

both in my price range but I don't know much about the areas. Remember, I will be a single young female living alone.

5527 Pershing: Safe, easy access to the metro, bikeable to the CWE and the Loop, and access to one of the country's best urban parks. Again, like all of Debaliviere Place, not that much to walk to in the immediate area -- only you can decide if that's worth it to you.

7270 Balson: Safe, bikeable to the Loop. Not much within immediate walking distance nor is it accessible to the metro.

If I were choosing between only those two, I'd go with the one on Pershing.
