There's not much in the Denver forum/city vs city forum/on the internet in general comparing neighborhoods in STL vs Denver. There's a high probability we're moving there in the next 2 months and I'm freaking out! We're looking for something fairly similar to Soulard or Tower Grove South. Anyone with enough knowledge? I've never even been to Denver, and my husband spent a month there working, but didn't explore too much.

Did you see the St. Louis vs Denver thread on the city vs city board? Not very helpful since most posters there clearly knew very little about St. Louis. I also won't be too much help since I've only been there once, but Denver is a really cool city in a very beautiful part of the country. I have heard that Stapleton is a neat new urban area in the city. But I'm not sure where the funky parts of Denver are.

I did, but it seemed to be more of a general which one is better sort of deal. My understanding of Stapleton is that it's more planned new urbanism, which isn't really what we're looking for right now. More than anything, I'm shocked by how much more expensive housing is compared to STL right now, especially given the similar metro area populations. Also, I'm told the rental market is a lot "hotter" than here, which makes things interesting.

I've been to Denver every summer for the past 4 years. As far as the number cool urban neighborhoods you are not going to find as much as we have here. Capitol Hill is very similar to CWE in that it caters to "alternative" lifestyles and has a lot of more upscale dining and entertainment. Anything around Colfax Street would probably be the most similar to Soulard. I would check out City Park, City Park West, Congress Park, and Cheesmen Park.

One thing I will say about Denver is that LoDo blows away downtown STL as a place to hang out. There are tons of awesome eating and drinking establishments in LoDo. If you end up there and need any dining suggestions PM me and I'll let you know the places I've been to.

Yeah, I've gathered that Capitol Hill is similar to CWE. I like the CWE, but it's not really exactly what I'm looking for. LoDo is also probably too expensive and from Google Street View, seems a lot like Wash Ave, just bigger with more going on. We've been looking in the Highlands with pretty much zero luck, and I think we'll be expanding our search to Cheesemen Park and Washington Park soon, which struck me as a little bit more of what I'm looking for too. My husband's co-workers said City Park is kinda sketchy...but I'm taking it with a grain of salt, as these guys are all like 50+ and live in the equivalent of Chesterfield Valley. I was not expecting $1k/mo to be a difficult budget for a nice-ish 1 bedroom.

Hey There!

I am from Denver and looking to relocate to St. Louis!!!

If you'd like to explain in detail what you're looking for as far as area and culture fit go, I'd be more than happy to guide you into the perfect area as I'm a Denver native.

What do you like to do for fun? What type of housing are you looking for? Where will your commute be to?

Look for my new thread on the forum and maybe you can help me in my quest!

I'm from Denver.

There is really nothing like Tower Grove and Soulard in the Denver area. The closest sort of thing would be Uptown and Capitol Hill. Both are similarly situated in proximity to the downtown neighborhood, but both are without the super-historical sense of especially Soulard.

Wash Park is more similar to south city, in my opinion. Cheeseman Park and Congress Park are somewhat similar to the CWE/Tower Grove parts of town.

My sister has lived just south of City Park for probably six years now, and hasn't had any problems. I've never heard her mention any issues with crime in the area. When I was last out there several years ago, I noticed a few blocks were a little run down, but not particularly sketchy. The area seemed a little sleepy--there wasn't a lot of pedestrian traffic, and City Park across the street wasn't too busy.

The Washington Park area seemed pretty cool--lots of folks walking around the neighborhood, utilizing the park, etc. This area reminded me a bit of Tower Grove South.
