The Grand and Gravois name refers to a large intersection of two major streets. To the north is a pretty good area, Tower Grove Heights, with big homes and good housing values. To the south and east is the Gravios Park neighborhood, which is really struggling with gang problems. The Benton Park West neighborhood is also nearby, and also struggles with gangs. Tower Grove Heights has more crime then people would expect, mainly due to its proximity to Benton Park West and Graviois Park.

If you are looking for a house in that area, make sure you have a good real estate agent. The area is gentrifying rapidly, and there are many blocks that were very scary a few years ago that are now safe and clean. The further north you go on Grand, up by Arsenal Street, the nicer the area becomes.

The Gravois Park and Benton Park West areas are getting attention lately from urban pioneers and rehabbers. The housing stock is very good with large brick homes. It isn't the safest area right now, though. I give it another five years before it gentrifies. Tower Grove Heights, on the other hand, is already full of families, yuppies, and coffee shops.
