i second the demun suggestion- that's a very safe and walkable area for a female. I walked my small dogs around there all the time when we lived at the Dorchester in the Demun neighborhood. Make sure the place you rent has parking though- street parking can be pretty hard to find since there are a lot of condo's in the area and businesses as well.

Ok, let's hear it one more time, but this time for a single white male 28. Moorlands, Demun or CWE? Looking to buy.

To buy? Definitely CWE. There's just a lot more forward momentum over there with IKEA/Whole Foods/possibly City Target, Cortex, and the apartment construction boom.

And yet, with that development I wonder if it might mean more of two types of traffic. First, hundreds of more cars clogging the streets. There are times when CWE gets a little congested but with Whole Foods coming, I anticipate Pine between KingsHighway and Taylor, Euclid between Forest Park and Lindell grinding to a halt. There's also a slight concern with more of the downtown problems moving west to CWE because there will be more targets. Am I overreacting? I'm not in the area myself, he is. Thanks!

Yes, it will get more congested, but will also get safer. Generally the more people who are out and about on the sidewalks, the safer it is. I don't foresee downtown's bum/street crime problem moving to the CWE. Quite the opposite.

I would say can't go wrong with either CWE or DeMun. The Moorlands is fine, but DeMun gets you closer to Forest Park and the restaurants/shops on DeMun are nice to have. DeMun is quieter than the CWE for better or for worse. The CWE still lacks a quality, mid-priced grocery option although the Schnucks on Arsenal is not that far away.

Can you tell me about the shops in DeMunn? I only took a quick ride through once and it was cloudy, drizzly and not the best day to be out.

He's a good shopper. His job requires travel to different suburbs and towns and so he works in a Costco and Trader Joe's run once every 2 weeks or so. Hits Dierbergs or Schnucks weekly, so he's only had to use Stroud's for the occasional oops I forgot something or let's just go see what they have kind of thing. He also hits the Italian groceries on the hill for lunchmeat and homemade raviolis.

Demun has a great coffee shop (Kaldi's), wine bar (Sasha's), oyster bar/restaurant (Demun Oyster Bar), okay restaurant (Jimmy's), candy store, deli (Carl's), hair salon. It's not an extensive set of shops but it's a pretty charming street with Concordia Park along it as well. There is a good Schnucks about a 1-2 minute drive away on Clayton Rd.

Thanks Hector2, that's pretty much what I recalled. Moorland has a couple of places near Hanley and Wydown.

Thanks to everyone!
