Hi there,

I have an 11 week internship at Boeing (Hazelwood/Airport area) next summer. I am not very familiar with the area.

Some things I'm looking for:

-Fairly close, ~15 minutes at most in moderate traffic.
-Safe
-Somewhere with a 3 month lease

Is this possible? Any information is greatly appreciated, thanks!

3 months is going to be a pretty short time. You'll have to call around to really get a better idea of what to expect. Do you have a $$ amount that you'd like to stay around?

You can get a pretty good idea of the areas around Boeing simply by looking at Google-Earth. As you know Hazelwood is very near the area. If you go from Boeing and head both South and West you'd be very near to the area, and still very safe. That vast swath of North County, specifically North of I-270 is very safe until you get very very very far East towards the Mississippi River.

St. Louis isn't to traffic laden, so it normally doesn't take a whole lot to be within 15 minutes. It takes me about 25-30 minutes to get into the office, and I work south of Downtown and live a couple minutes from the airport.

As to your short leasing timeframe, that might be more difficult to come across. I'd wonder if you'd have good luck with an Extended Stay hotel. I know there's one that our airline used to put people in out by the Verizon amphitheater. Good luck, and enjoy the internship!

I would just sublease an apartment in Clayton or University City. Lots and lots of Washington University students live there during the school year, but sublease their place over the summer. Short term leases come at a high price through more traditional means.

^I think this is great advice and probably your best bet for finding a non-horrifyingly-expensive 3-month lease.
