Hi,

I'm visiting STL on Friday, where can I park to visit the zoo for free?

Much love.

The most immediate parking is in front of the north entrance to the zoo, and there is parking along the street leading up to the art museum For close, free parking, arrive early. The park was very busy sunday .. the ramps for Hampton Ave Sunday were backed up, and it took me a good 30 minutes to get into the park! I'll enter a different way next weekend (for Softball at the aviation fields).

I always turn south from Skinker onto Government drive- stay right at the split, and then find a spot as close down toward Tamm as possible. If you get there before 8:30, you'll probably be within a hundred yards of the south entrance. After 9:00 and you'll be up by the picnic shelters a good quarter mile or more from the entrance.

Another option to avoid traffic if it is crowded is to park at the Upper Muny Lot or the Forest Park Metrolink and ride the trolley. It will cost ($2 for adults, $1 for kids 5-12 and free for 4 and under), but the ticket lasts all day and it seems way simpler than driving around trying to find a parking space.

We've never had a problem parking on the street near the art museum. We take the Hampton exist of 40 and go past the zoo on your left, veer left and you go behind the zoo. The street to the art museum is to the right and up a hill, can't miss it.

Went to the zoo yesterday .. noticed they are working on a new habitat for the bears, who will be moving from the area adjacent to the Living World to an area along Rivers Edge. It was funny because before noticing that, friends and I were chatting that it seems the bear and big cat areas are among the older exhibits.

I know it's likely for a current or soon visit, but for future reference for the original poster, the trolley is seasonal.

But yes, one could park near the visitor's center or elsewhere and ride the trolley, or park and walk on a nice day if physically able. Otherwise lots of street parking near the zoo and in the park.
