St. Louis: A Model For Aspiring Tech Hubs

"Only a few U.S. cities can claim to be technology meccas. Silicon Valley, Boston, Seattle, and — recently — New York City are responsible for the lion’s share of successful tech startups in the U.S., but they can no longer stake a sole claim. New tech hubs, like St. Louis, are emerging. St. Louis’ rise can serve as a model for other would-be hubs."

IT World has a great article on the great start up culture

From IT World - How post-industrial St. Louis made itself a startup hotbed

There is some pretty cool rumored stuff out there too, the combination of big research universities, capitol and great walkable neighborhoods with buildings with amazing space, plus an original homegrown culture all add to the mix, could be some great times ahead

High tech jobs are always good, hopefully we can bring attract and retain a workforce to support the businesses. I've never used LockerDome for any real purpose, but sports folks seem to love it...and consider the owner and I were classmates in grade school, I have to support em! Go LockerDome, and from something I saw on facebook, i think the owner is looking at starting another business venture. More good things for the area I hope!

Just realized the author of that IT World article is in my meetup group :O (as are several other people mentioned throughout the articles. Invited Aisle411 to be the keynote of the dev meetup at the statewide GIS conference earlier this year, and even since then they have grown dramatically. Definitely one of the best keynotes I have ever seen at a developer meetup.

Our company, an IT based medical biling company, has been trying to hire a new developer and they are interviewing candidates who have multiple job offers and are not finding anyone at a salary that would have drawn 40-50 applicants just a couple of years ago.

You should look into Launch Code Saint Louis if you have an existing developer.
