Hi friends, I am from Blue Springs, Mo. I am planning to come to your area and enjoy floating on the Mississippi river, in my 17 Old Town Canoe. I am experienced in river floating and Whitewater Rivers as well. I was surprised to read how many of you enjoy activities on sandbars on this river. I understand the water speed to be around 1.2 miles per hour. This sounds like a safer river to enjoy floating on than I first thought. The Missouri River is a river full of peril and I have crossed it four times in my canoe. It has whirlpools 20ft wide with cores a foot across, debris, and strong currents. What can you tell me about the Mississippi River near Pike County / St. Louis County? What I am reading tells me it is like floating on a lake. Since I know no one in the area, I was hoping someone could tell me some facts about this river that would help me understand how this river would be floating it in a canoe. Your time is very much appreciated..
