me and my wife are looking into buying a house in the near future and weve been seeing a lot of houses around the st.louis area benton park tower grove ect... that are going for between 70-100k and they are not short sales. does anyone know of any local banks are credit unions that will do a mortage under 100k? we are not looking to flip just save on the monthly payment. I am also eligible for a VA loan if that changes anything.

DH and I also bought for >$100k but we used DH's deployment money and my savings as opposed to getting a mortgage.

With VA Loans, I know Pulaski Bank in St. Louis does them, but I would first call the VA regional loan office (800-827-0611) for St. Louis and ask them which banks deal with VA Loans and if they know of any that will do less than 100k.

The final option I can think of, is Navy Federal Credit Union. If you're active or former DoD you'll be able to join if you haven't already. They have a branch near Scott AFB in the metro east. DH and I still bank there.

Good Luck

i have an account with navy federal right now but i have heard horrible reviews of their mortgage process from incredible long wait times to the most ridiculous inspections. I am currently deployed right now but not going to be able to save remotely enough to pay for a house in case
