Follow up. Apparently in response to the criticism, the mayor is now ordering side streets to be plowed:

St. Louis mayor orders side streets to be plowed : News

Hopefully this will all be a bad, albeit wet and sloppy memory in a few days with warming temps.

Wow - so last night 4 friends and I went to hidden valley ski area (Wildwood) and I was the driver, I had to pick them all up. All city residents, various areas of South City. As I said earlier, around me (Lafayette and Compton) it didn't seem too bad. I had to pick friends up further south on Louisianna and another on Osage. It didn't seem to me ANYTHING had been done to many streets down there. I certainly understand more now the complaints I have been hearing.

I have to say, I don't have a whole lot of sympathy about the lack of plowed streets. Nothing ever happens to the side walks near where I live and the plowing of streets has just caused walking anywhere to be a HUGE pain. You can't get between the sidewalks and streets, even at intersections, because of the huge snow drifts from plowing. And it is just getting worse with the slightly warmer weather as it melts into slush and gigantic puddles. So ya, not much sympathy.
