It's been about 5+ years since I rode the Amtrak from STL to Chicago and I've got a quick question!

In Coach, is there anywhere I can charge my phone if necessary?

Thanks in advance!

Yes, they have wall sockets throughout the train, including coach.

Confirmed, I've taken that trip dozens of times over the years, and have always had juice for the laptop and cell.

Wifi has been announced as an upgrade for the future too. I've heard that some trains already have them on this route but it may be hit or miss.

I think I chose trains with wifi on them I'm doing a to Chicago and back in one day because I've got some errands to run up there Ugh, it's going to be a long day! Not looking forward to it!

At least I can power my phone though (which I use to download and read books, look on the internet, etc!)

Is the wifi free or do you pay for it?

Thanks again everyone!

Enjoy the ride. Personally, I look forward to the day when they upgrade the service to high speed. It is rediculous that a train ride should take longer than driving. My last trip there we were delayed leaving the Chicago terminal, and were HOURS late getting in as we also had to stop around Alton for what could have been a right of way issue that just seems to also take forever. That trip really frustated me and will make me think twice about ever using current service again

^ Yeah you get the occasional delay letting freight go by. Especially with all the track construction going on the last couple of years. It's usually not too bad, but I have had a couple of incidents that weren't so pleasant like the time I had a first-time train passenger in the seat behind me. This woman didn't just have a nicotine fit; she had a nicotine breakdown, and she made sure the rest of us were just as miserable as she was.

I usually just watch movies and drink a beer or three and the trip flies by.

We were an hour late getting into Chicago this morning due to freight train delays but the trip was fine! Wifi worked great, and it's awesome they have outlets!

Now the errands are done and I've got a couple of hours to kill before heading back to the Lou. It's just so darn cold out and windy that I don't care to do the touristy thing for a couple of hours. I love Chicago but the weather isn't very pleasant right now!

Glad you had a good trip! Next time make sure you can stay a few days and properly enjoy my home away from St. Louis
