I was reading a lot of threads, regarding neighborhoods. I am moving within two months, never been to the city. Someone can help me regarding the cost of rents in tower grove, downtown or other NBH around. Studio or one bedroom. I really like old buildings ( lots of space ) but not falling down. I am moving from Miami, looking for something Diff for at least a year, is STL a city worthwhile making the move?
Thanx

Downtown is typically pricey (for STL) just because its a whole ton of lofts that have been renovated in the last 10 years. Average for a 1 bedroom is probably around $1,000/month. Central West End is probably around the same price. Tower Grove South is cheaper. Probably around $650/month average. STL will definitely be something different from Miami.

Try the area around DeMun too....Close to Forest Park; some nice shops/restaurants and young graduate students/professionals rent there.

Lots of good recommendations above. For ~$650, you should look at areas round Tower Grove Park (Southwest Garden, Shaw, Tower Grove South), Dogtown, Soulard, Benton Park, Lafayette Square, Delmar Loop, and Skinker-DeBaliviere.

I moved here 2 years ago fresh out of college on a $450/mo budget, and it's absolutely doable. For $600-700, you can choose from a plethora of neighborhoods in STL. Rents in STL are RIDICULOUSLY CHEAP, and not just in the hood where I lived when I first moved here.

Don't sweat it. For $650 you can even rent in the ritziest neighborhood in STL, the Central West End.

Thank you Dr. for the response. I am moving to STL without knowing the city and it can be hard to make a decision because the diff stories and opinions that people have regarding the city. I am single in my thirties and don't want to move to a NBH that you don't have anything within walking distance.
