Hello All,

My mom recently stayed with me over the holidays, for a little over a week. She is planning on visiting again in March for 3 WEEKS!! I love my mom but this last week almost killed me and drove my husband crazy. A hotel would be waaaay to expensive for her to stay at for that length of time. She is traveling from Germany and the cost is already astronomical! My question to you, oh so savvy, city people: Have you had any experiences (good or bad) with air bnb? How do I gently tell my mom that I am excited to have her visit, but she can't stay with us for that long as it really messes up our family dynamic. Have I mentioned we live in a two bedroom house? The second bedroom already acts as baby room/office. I feel that she would be more comfortable staying at another place but how can I convince her that someone else's home is better than mine? Sigh. (Or, I could just be the worst daughter in the world.)
Help!

Do what I did... and find your Mom an American boyfriend! Seriously- it worked! My Mum has visited 3 times over the past year for numerous weeks at a time, and she stays with her boyfriend and just visits me from time to time (she visits from Australia).

Haha, okay that aside though... (even though that above is the honest truth, I know it's probably not what you're looking for!)...

Have you looked into the Extended Stay Hotels? When DH and I were house hunting, and when I was doing renovations on this house before moving in, we stayed at places like Extended Stay America and others similar. They're far from glamorous, but they're safe and secure, have their own amenities (small kitchens in the rooms, etc) and it means that you could have your own space, as could she! They are usually pretty affordable- and the longer you stay, the cheaper the nightly rate becomes.

As for convincing her, without knowing your mother, I'm sorry I don't have any tips there. When DH & I lived in a 2 bedroom house, I'd always ask my mother to stay in a hotel because we "didn't have the space" (we used our second, small bedroom as a box room / storage, it was definitely not set up to receive guests). She was fine with it.

I'm not sure about the rates for B&B's around here- but I'd actually assume that an Extended Stay property might be cheaper. I looked at airbnb.com and it appears that some rooms run as low as $36, but I'm pretty sure we paid less for that at Extended Stay America (and you get your own room, kitchenette and bathroom, you don't have to worry about 'roommates' or disagreeable owners). So I would probably look into that option before B&B's.

Good Luck! ♥

Oh, I'll have to check that out! The extended stay...although a boyfriend is JUST what she needs right now!
Thanks Glam!
