Relocating to St. Louis Boeing Defense in Berkeley.
In my 20s and want to live alone.

I'm looking for a 1bed/1bath apartment for rent under or around $1000, though price is not a big factor.

I'd like to be close enough to Boeing to have a short commute (is <30 mins w/ traffic reasonable?)

Because I'll be living alone, it is essential that I find a safe suburb. I also don't mind living in St. Louis as long as it's "the good part of town".

What are some safe suburbs near Boeing?
What are the good parts of St. Louis city?

The area around Boeing has a lot to offer...I'd typically recommend Maryland Heights, and you should be able to get over there for under $1000/month, especially for a 1 bd room. Hazelwood is also a decent area, but I think Maryland Heights is still a bit better with regards to things to do, and quick highway access...

Much of St. Louis City is safe, but I'd advise you to look towards the south side of the city. Popular "hip" neighborhoods are Soulard, Benton Park, and Downtown's loft district along Washington Ave.

Congrats on the move!

My first pick would also be Maryland Heights. I was 21 and single when I first moved there and never had ANY problems. Plus, your commute to the airport would be very reasonable. Additionally, if night life is important to you, the commute to St. Louis is only about 25 minutes as well. I'll PM you with the apartment complex I used to live at because I can't say enough good things about it

Good luck!

I kind of assume that Berkley only has 50 homes left...Their elected leadership came under some sharp criticism for squandering the city's finances. Berkley was a decent neighborhood about 35-40 years ago...The closest I'd come to Berkley right now is Fergeson, which is 'up and coming' but has some great housing stock...especially for older Victorians.

It's probably around 20 minutes w/ no traffic. I never did the 70 commute heading west from downtown, but I can't imagine it's too much more added time.
