Taste of St. Louis festival moving to Chesterfield : Entertainment

Judging by some of the comments, it appears the city proponents aren't taking this well.

Not sure what's worse. The fact that they want to move the event all the way to Chesterfield. Or the fact that it will do much better out there.

Apparently following Bluesfest:

Bluesweek Moves to Chesterfield Due to Financial Woes

While I often go on record on this forum defending the burbs, I will say I feel like these types of festivals have a certain synergy with the city.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. A lot of people from South County and the Metro East will stop attending. There's also no hotels (or anything else), within walking distance, not to mention the sterility of it all. I would be thrilled if it were a massive failure and returned downtown next year.

I'm betting a lot of city residents won't show either, whether through protest or lack of will to drive the distance. Judging by the comments on the article (which are pretty entertaining), it seems a lot of people are opposed to this. It likely will bomb.

Dawn10am- actually I hope it's a huge flop too, to make them reconsider their choice of moving out to Chesterfield!

I may live in the County myself, but I would much rather see events such as this stay in downtown St. Louis. There's nothing better than a vibrant, downtown heart in any metro!
