Hi we are attending a robotics world championships at the Edward Jones dome in in April. Looking for a hotel to stay that is clean and nice but not crazy expensive. Will not have a vehicle while staying. Have a couple of saved hotels but the reviews are so up and down. Sheraton Downtown and Courtyard Downtown. Will be staying with high schools kids. Thanks

While I have not been inside either of these in a while, I think they are both nice hotels. The Sheraton will be closer to the dome for you; the Courtyard would be quite a walk. That is a very busy time of the year for downtown hotels, so getting a good deal is much less likely. One of the under rated hotels is the Ramada Plaza Hotel just around the corner from the dome. A friend of mine used to manage it, and he would hook me up when I had friends in town.

I would avoid the Econo Lodge or America's Best Value Inn.

In the past, I encouraged friends that were visiting to bid on priceline, and select a 3 star hotel in downtown (that eliminates the very few bad places) and bid about 45-50, and you could get a deal at the Mariott or Hyatt .. but with the convention in town I am not sure how much luck you would have.

The rooms in the Sheraton are HUGE--great for families. Nice hotel, a MetroLink stop is across the street.

My family and I have stayed at the Embassy Suites downtown for a couple of days. It was very nice! Try using this corporate code and see if it works: 0560041604. It is a Hilton honors code that anybody can use. Sometimes it will discount the room as much as 25%. Here is a link to the hotel: All-Suite St. Louis Hotels Downtown - Embassy Suites St. Louis
