HELP! I am looking to start law school at SLUs new law building. I have a budget of 600$ a month in rent. Willing to push 650$ if it's a very very good deal. I will have a car so parking is a necessity. My other big issue is with safety. I have looked at a few complexes but they have all had a reputation for being sketchy. Any grad students or other young people with suggestions? I'm really hoping to find something. But it needs to be safe. One bedroom is preferable but willing to go to a studio. If anyone has suggestions of safe buildings or areas or even places to for sure avoid, please let me know. I appreciate any help.

Since SLU has now located its law school downtown -- it probably would be convenient to take the metro link to and from school since parking is not cheap down there. Some areas where I think you would like and could afford is the DeMun area (can get bus to metrolink); Brentwood are (has a major bus depot and metrolink stop); some areas of Dog town (actually is in South St Louis by Forest Park) -- good bus transportation to metrolink stops.

Hope this helps -- also see this : Studio In Demun,Available In June

Welcome to SLU! Current SLU Law student here. The most popular neighborhoods for SLU Law students are downtown, midtown, the Central West End, and Lafayette Square, but it'd be hard (if not impossible) to find anything for $600-650 in any of those areas unless you want a roommate. Then it would be doable. I live in a 2 bd/2 ba on Wash Ave. with a roommate and my portion is under $600. If you're set on living alone, I think your best bet would be to look in South City (i.e. Tower Grove, Soulard, Fox Park/McKinley Heights, Benton Park). Or even farther away in Dogtown or UCity. But, keep in mind, parking in the SLU building is outrageously expensive and parking on a monthly basis in any of the nearby garages is also not cheap, so you'll need to factor that in as well. It's not uncommon for students to spring for a monthly Metro pass and use that to get to school instead, since it's cheaper than parking. However, the neighborhoods with easy Metro access are also more expensive than those without.

I'd say DeBaliviere Place is probably one of the better values if you plan to get to SLU law via MetroLink. Still close to everything, great MetroLink access, rent is less than in bordering CWE

Oh yeah, Skinker-DeBaliviere! I always seem to forget that one. Definitely check that one out as well.
