Auduarto made an excellent point when he pointed out that in the Bronx and I've noticed it in Washington DC, when you're in an area that is more diverse in that there are numerous ethic, racial or religious groups, people tend to be more accepting. I guess that it becomes less of an "us vs them" thing.

Ironically, on a recent trip to Manhattan, me (caucasian) and my g/f (darker skinned Dominican), received more stares and puzzled glances then we ever have in the Norfolk, Va metro area. It got to the point where my g/f actually asked me flat out why I thought that so many people kept staring at us.

Given, Manhattan, unlike the other burroughs, is covered with more tourists and out of towners then locals, but I certainly felt less comfortable there, as a biracial couple, then in the southern metro area I call home.

That's anywhere USA, and I mean anywhere USA. I've lived a lot of places. And, it's not exclusive to any race either. If the poster thinks this is unique to St. Louis they need to get out more. There are also a lot of people of course who don't live this way either and are color blind. But I've yet to live or visit a place that doesn't have some issues with race.
