There is more of a police vs African American community than there is African American vs White.

I don't know what everyone was watching but I saw just as many Whites out last night as I did African American. The racial tension is something that was thrown in there by people who want to see racism.

I'm glad the SLMPD is taking the responsible road with dealing with this unlike Ferguson and St. Louis county.

I just want to know the facts. If the police officer was really shot at. If not, he needs to be dealt with like the criminal he is. I will wait for the outcome.

The tension between the African American community and law enforcement should have never been allowed to deteriorate so much that everything is scrutinized and hundreds of people have taken to the streets.

Are they going to protest this, too?

Quote:
A man who was shot here Wednesday afternoon has died, police said.
The shooting was in the 1300 block of Sharondale Drive, at the Park Ridge Apartments. Police said they were looking for a suspect in a maroon sedan after the shooting at about 4 p.m.
Ferguson police Capt. Dan DeCarli identified the man killed as Robin Poindexter of St. Louis. He said Poindexter was in his 50s.
Police said they do not believe he was targeted in the shooting.
Heather De Main, who works at the nearby office of #HealSTL, said she heard four shots at about the time state Sen. Maria Chappelle-Nadal, D-University City, arrived there, and at first feared they had been intended for her. She said Chappelle-Nadal locked herself in the office as a precaution.

Is there a police cover up?

You've got to think a little deeper and see the difference. Protest happen when there is conflicting stories with law enforcement. At first stlmpd said the guy jumped out of the bushes now they've changed the report.

We can't have a police department to protect and serve and not tell the truth.

This is not about race. It's about accountability. The truth will come out.

I don't know, I would say race is a factor in this. But yes, it is also about the police, and how they shouldn't be immune to the laws they are supposed to uphold. Same with Ferguson-yes, we wonder about the racial aspects, but we also wonder why the police are armed for suppression rather than protection.

Powerful statement/question. This is where law enforcement reform comes in.

Did you see how fast things escalated down there?
When I was watching it on the news last night there were already a couple of hundred protesters, some with signs already made. Hundreds of blue lights from people's cameras following the cops around. Social Media sure changed the way things happen hasn't it? It was on Youtube bright and early this morning.

Take some of the money, a fraction we give to other countries in aid, and outfit police agencies with body cams. That would end so much of this conflict because that video would show it all. It's pretty hard to argue with a video.

Unfortunately it is about race, if the officer that shot the guy had been black, you might still see the upset family swearing their relative did nothing wrong and saying what a swell guy he was, but you wouldn't see the protests and the riots that have taken place. And there are some that definitely want to keep things stirred up as much as possible. Funny all these police hating protesting types are still fast to dial 911 for the cops in time of emergency. Like if their child goes missing or they are a victim of domestic battery.

No one likes bully cops but just because the cop is white and the victim is black does not mean the cop acted in an overzealous aggressive manner nor should one assume the black person is totally innocent of any actions that might have made the use of force necessary. People need to stop reacting purely on emotion and anger. And people need to stop pandering to this type of behavior.

"Myers was wearing an ankle bracelet at the time he died — a court-ordered monitoring system as a condition of bail in a gun case, according to his lawyer and police."

How should the residents respond when the police change their story? There is more to it than White cop kills Black. Like I've written before, this is about accountability. If the officer report that he jumped out of the bushes and once after the residents show proof there where no bushes around then that add fire to the flames.

There is a history behind the tension that no one can deny. We will see where this goes. I wonder how they will be able to track the weapon back to the man. Or will it be traced back to the STLMPD.

I think a lot of people would have us disregard the victim's past actions and--perhaps--proclivity toward lawbreaking as irrelevant or merely character assassination. Remember what happened when it was released that Michael Brown robbed a convenience store shortly before he was killed? The fact of the matter is that EVERYTHING is relevant in these situations.
