i posted something similar in one of the stories on stltoday....

anywhere between 30,000 to 60,000 have come to st.louis since the late 1990's...lets split the difference and call it 45,000....a lot moved to the county, most stayed in the city...but you never see this reflected on the city population number...somehow the city had 396,000 in 1990 and 348,000 in 2000 and in 2008 354,000....I can understand that during the last census these people probably didnt really know much about it and most were not counted....maybe during the upcoming one they will be and the city comes up to about 37000+..most are US Citizens by now..also its not like they are just repacing the people that lived in the city and moved to the county...because since the last census the county is losing people. Bevo Mill area wasnt really happening 10 years ago..but the Bosnians that have opened up stores, bars, offices, markets that have really helped that area

Do Bosnians have any political clout in Saint Louis?

No.

Mahmuljin said protesters also expressed frustration over a lack of political representation. Despite their large and notable presence in St. Louis, there has not been one appointed or elected Bosnian representative in local or state government.

The big influx of Bosnians started in the mid to late 90s. Like a lot of more recent immigrant groups, they began to disperse after gettin a few years of life experience here. If they were undercounted, that more likely happened in the 2000 census when they were more likely to distrust the govt. As they continue to move out into the county, I think they're likely to be a reason why the city population either continues to decline or only hold constant by 2020.

I was thinking about that as well. I've heard upwards of 70k. Yet not reflected in city population numbers. Why? These were not illegals who slipped in. These were refugees and I'd believe the feds had a firm count on them.

Well, I've mentioned this in other posts, but by 2010 at least a lot of Bosians have moved to the county.

Small sample size, but check out the Melville High School varsity soccer roster:
