We are relocating to STL from Raleigh where there is a large East Indian population. Is there a particular area of STL city or a suburb were Indians live??

Not particularly to my knowledge. There isn't a Devon Street Corridor like Chicago. You'll do fine. The East Indian population is small but growing and scattered.

Native Americans rarely ever refer to themselves as Indians. That was a term coined by European explorers for the native people of the Americas because they thought they had landed their ships in the East Indies (Southeast Asia). When it became apparent that the explorers had not reached Asia, the Caribbean Islands were called the West Indies. That led to nearly all native people to being called Indians. Therefore, East Indian = India Indians, aka Asia Indian.

Here's a link to a man who organized the first St. Charles County (just west of St. Louis County) south Asian festival this past September:

Rao Chilakala 314-496-0685 - this number is posted on the below website

Email: sahf2007@gmail.com

website::: S A H F ::

There is a Hindu temple in west St. Louis County:

The Temple of St.Louis

I know there is a particular neighborhood in Chesterfield (west STL county) that has quite a large population of South Asians that I read about a few months ago in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. You might have better luck than me trying to do a search on their website - STLtoday - Home - it seems to be not wanting to respond to search requests at the moment.

Hope this helps!

Hi cbear
I was actually refering to East Indians yes the ones from India. Thanks ucfjtm for your info. Ironically I myself am biracial my father is Indian the "red" kind or what we PC call native american and my mother is Irish. Then my boyfriend is East Indian so our son is both kinds of Indian. Funny huh PS most native americans dont like to be called "red indians" as my dad says "does my skin look freakin red to you" most that I know just call them selves American Indian. Thanks for your advice inahandbasket!

Maryland Heights, Creve Couer, Manchester, Chesterfield are where you'll find a higher % of Indian population.

If you need more information on Indian restaurants, movie theaters, groceries etc.., let me know and I'll post in more detail.
