A friend and I just visited Madison, WI recently had had homemade tater tots at a local pub. We laughed when we saw tots six different ways on the menu and thought it must be a "northern" thing but ended up trying them anyway. These were the BEST fried morsels of soft , lightly seasoned potato we have ever tasted! Much bigger than the the boring bagged variety too. They were "loaded"--covered with an amazing cheese sauce, real bacon, sour cream and chives. We are STILL talking about them! Now we won't likely get back up there anytime soon so I've been searching for local restaurants (STL or Metroeast) that might serve these goodies. I have found recipes and they sound similar but a bit labor intensive and fried. I don't fry much at home...I prefer to have it as a treat eating out so I'd rather find someone else do this for me! LOL. Anyone????

I have heard amazing things about blood & sand's tots, however, haven't been there because it's a membership-type place. I've heard various things about circumventing the membership thing during the week though. I can't actually think of any other place off the top of my head that makes their own. I can think of a few places that do loaded tots, but I don't recall any of those having fresh made, non-frozen tasting, tater tots.

On that note, I <3 WI.
