My partner and I are planning a move to st Louis. We are in our late twenties and have two young kids and a baby. We are looking for affordable, safe, lgbt friendly rentals. Don't really want to be close to the bar scene. Would like to be able to utilize public transportation and decent schools and daycares. All the post I could find with this kind of info where pretty old... Any info or helpful connections would be soooo appreciated!!! Thank you!! We are super excited!

Welcome! I would recommend the Tower Grove and Shaw areas in the City of St. Louis first. Lots of LGBT families, affordable, reasonably safe, and with access to decent public transportation via bus. There are a few bars in the area, but it's hardly a "bar scene." The only major caveat would be schools. The schools in the City are notoriously bad, so you'd either have to shell out for private or get lucky in the lottery for charter schools.

If you don't want to deal with the City schools situation, I would recommend the inner-ring suburbs of University City, Maplewood, and Richmond Heights. Without knowing your budget it's hard to be more exact.

You could look into the IL side of the River too. Swansea and O'Fallon both have great school districts and the Metrolink is very close and convenient. My son is bi and he was surprised when we moved from northern CA at how lgbt friendly the high school was and that they had a GSA club. Regarding crime, Swansea had it's first murder in five years a few months back.

Welcome to St. Louis and good luck!

In general, I think the metro area is pretty LGBT friendly. There are going to be heavier pockets on LGBT residents in certain areas. I am not sure how relevant that is to your search. Metro east established their own (smaller) version of pride a few years back and that is held in Belleville. Public schools tend to be the concern in the city of St. Louis - but I hear great things about magnet schools. And crime has been an issue as of late so you should do some research on that as well. Most of it is targeted (drug / gang related). Personally, the neighborhoods I like the best are Ssouth Grand / Tower Grove and Soulard. The West End is great (higher end) and has better public transportation.

Lets clarify that you likely mean the Central West End and not the West End (two very different places).

Hello and welcome to The St Louis area!

If You are looking for the best of the best please check out Clayton.

Clayton, MO has amazing amenities and convenience and an amazing school district.

You will pay some of the highest prices but your home or condo will only appreciate.

For a convenient yet more suburban setting I would recommend Webster Groves or Olivette.

Webster Groves is a Progressive town located near to the city with a very cute downtown area which is anchored by Webster University.

Olivette is a more suburban area. However it is still very accessible to the amenities of the city.

Olivette is also mostly is the Ladue School District. Ladue School District and Clayton School District are the top 2 Districts in the Metro.

All of these area are Progressive and Gay-Friendly!

It all depends on your budget
