Okay, sorry...

I'm considering a move to the city and am looking for information about the different neighborhoods. I've read many posts on here and on other sites but would like some feedback relative to our situation. I'm single with a 9 year old son who is a member of a minority group. I want to settle in an area that would be diverse enough to where we would not stand out and he would not be the only non-white child in the neighborhood. I'm hoping to stay slightly north so Holly Hills and thereabouts would be too far south. Any thoughts on the areas just south of 40? I believe that would include Dogtown.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I'm sure somebody can help you, I don't know too much about that area I'm close to those cemeteries on the Rock Road. I'll probably end up in one of them.

I live in/love dogtown, but it's not exactly known for its diversity if that's important to you. I'd say Dogtown is somewhere around 80-85% white. He wouldn't be the only non-white kid though, and while I don't have direct experience with kids of my own, things appear inclusive--everyone playing together at Franz Park, sports teams at St James are a mix of people, etc.

Otherwise, love the neighborhood--easy to get anywhere, people really look after each other/know each other, some nice casual bars/restaurants in the neighborhood, affordable housing prices, pretty safe.

If that's your only criterion, plenty of neighborhoods fit the bill. Besides Dogtown, I would look at the neighborhoods around Tower Grove Park. Shaw (where I live) and Tower Grove South sound like great fits!

I'm in Southwest Garden, right by Tower Grove Park. I would definitely look into the areas around the park - Southwest Garden, Tower Grove South, Shaw. It's very diverse here, but very safe. I love it here!

Hi,
Newbie here but lifelong St. Louisan. I would recommend Tower Grove South (diverse, fairly safe, lots of family activities nearby), Lindenwood Park, (very safe, not as diverse, but still a great neighborhood for families and close to Hwy 44 and Metrolink), North- or Southhampton, Southwest Garden, Dogtown, or Clifton Heights. Lots of great stuff for kids, but with great city amenities (restaurants, public transportation, etc).
