What do you think of the new stadium? Is it a good idea, or no? And what is your reasoning behind your answer?

Personally, I hate it. For these reasons:

-It turns a lot of infrastructure and potentially valuable historic buildings into a space that is largely just parking lot. Last I checked, parking lots don't provide much in the way of tax revenue.

-We as a city have way more pressing issues than where the Rams (or any NFL franchise) will be playing next year. Like one of the nation's highest murder rates.

-Kroenke clearly can pay for his own stadium without public assistance; we should not be footing the bill for a billionaire who clearly wants out of St. Louis in the first place.

-We don't have the money to build a new stadium when we're still paying off the last one!

-This downtown stadium will be as much of a "game-changer" for downtown as the Dome was when it was built. Meaning, not at all.

-It's going to be used ~20 times a year at maximum. That's not a lot of uses, and thus not a lot of tax revenue.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Rams. But a shiny new stadium won't improve our city. Sure, it'll make us feel good about ourselves for a little while, but that's not going to help solve our problems.

Football is my favorite sport but I don't see the point in building a new stadium.

I don't know how I feel yet because I don't have all the facts.

I hate the huge parking lots in the renderings. It doesn't appear to be designed to go with a Laclede landing revitalization. I have a hard time believing that we won't get hit with a tax increase.

On the positive note, a new riverfront stadium has the potential to change our riverfront and the areas around it like Old North St. Louis. The new bridge, riverfront development plans our city can dramatically change.

Time will reveal more details.

I like to see St. Louis stay an NFL town but it seems doubtful. I voted yes in the poll, the only 1 so far, but that is voting with my heart not my head.

I don't think this stadium will ever be built. I find it interesting that Nixon and his team are trying to find ways to extend the bonds from the old stadium to the proposed new one without any kind of public vote - because I think they know it will get voted down. There is no support outside of St. Louis for state money for the stadium, and I don't it would pass in St. Louis County either if it was put to a vote.

@ OuttaTheLouBurbs Well said.

But, isn't the stadium to also host MLS soccer? Meaning that it will be used more than 20 times? And I think that MLS soccer will be great for St. Louis.

MLS would be great, but StL getting a team is far from a guarantee. Until a billionaire comes out and says they're committed to bringing MLS to St. Louis, don't get your hopes up.

Between the stadiums and the light rail, how much tax money has this cost the state of Missouri?

I'm curious as to why St Louis needs a new football stadium, they have a fairly new football stadium and if Kansas City makes do with 40+ year old baseball/football stadium, why can't St Louis make do with it's current and fairly young football stadium?

What? Are you trying to add in other subjects here? If so you might want to look into how some of those things were paid for, not to mention where the majority of MO's tax revenue comes from. Are you from KC or the countryside?

Short answer: it doesn't physically need a new stadium, but the team's lease allow the owner to move without one (or massive upgrades to the dome).

Why stadium and light rail, and not other projects like the Page Extension? That seems like a curiously arbitrary choice.

Because if StL sticks with the old stadium, the Rams will move to LA, and Missouri will lose out on beaucoup bucks in tax revenue.
