Hi there! I need help. We will be relocating to the St Louis area for my husband's job. My husband will need to commute to Fenton. (close to intersection of 44 & 270) I have no idea where to start shopping for homes. If a local could give me a bit of help, that would be great! What's important to us:
1. We don't care about getting into the city really
2. Good public school is top priority (son in 6th grade now, so middle school/junior high & high school both are important
3. Land is top priority- we are happy with an acre. Bigger is fine, but prefer not smaller
4. Don't want anything dated. See a lot of shiny brass online. Yikes, hello 1980! Willing to build if we can't find the decor we prefer
5. Not really into a historic home as my husband is very tall (we like big closets & 9' ceilings or higher)
6. Safety very important
7. Budget- Max $1.2 mill
Can anyone help me out? Thank you in advance! We really loved living in Overland Park, KS. Leawood & Stillwell very pretty too. Anything have this sort of feel? Hoping the weather is better than Overland Park, KS!

There will be more new homes the further out from the city you go, but otherwise I can't think of a compelling reason for you not to live in/near Fenton, except maybe that it's not expensive enough.

I'm thinking Wildwood primarily and also Chesterfield and Eureka. All seem pretty good for you. You'll find newer houses on large lots. Look for the Rockwood school district.

By the way, shiny brass is back in fashion.

I second above poster - you sound like a fit for Wildwood, Chesterfield, Town and Country, and Eureka. You'll need to stay outside 270 to avoid those pesky dated historical homes.

There are plenty of newer homes inside 270. 4 Sugar Creek Trl in Kirkwood, for instance, built 1995. There also tons of current construction; the main problem is acreage, not age (although a few lots like near Sugar Creek are larger).

I second wildwood.

The closest you'll come to Overland Park, KS in St. Louis is likely Wildwood...although you may find some options East of St. Louis as well.

The good news for you, is that a $1M will go a very long way in this area.

Check out Sunset Hills. You should be able to cross off every item on your list there, and it will be super close to your husband's job.

Thank you all for the feedback! Very, very helpful. I really appreciate it.

To FrankMiller: $1.2k is the max but always happy to pay less & will certainly check out Fenton.

Hector2: I started looking online today at Wildwood, Chesterfield & Eureka today. I was not aware that was the name of the school district. Good to know, thank you! Funny about the brass, LOL!!! My mom (grandma) will be happy to hear!

RubyJune- I agree. We do need to stay outside 270. I have zero interest in historical homes & we prefer spread out country, not city living. I'll add Town & Country to my list, Thank you!

FrankMiller- thanks for the feedback. Looks like moving west is better for us to get our land.

Overall, how do you all like St. Louis? How is the weather? Sounds like cost of living is pretty good?I really loved Overland Park KS. If it is anything like that, I will fall in love!

DeBaliviere- I'll add Sunset Hills to my search. Close to hubby's job is a bonus! Thank you

Flynavyj- Love that you referenced Overland Park. (best kept secret & I LOVE it there!) Will emphasize Wildwood with this in mind. Thank you

^ Yes, Sunset Hills. Large attractive homes on beautiful acreage. And right next door to Fenton making for an easy commute. I would not consider Eureka-Wildwood by the sheer fact that eastbound commuter traffic on 44 is horrific most days.
