Hi All - I'm wondering what the best (and hopefully cost efficient) way is to get from Kirkwood to Des Peres. I'm traveling on Amtrak from Chicago to Kirkwood on Friday and was wondering if there's any kind of mass transit that links the two. If not, can anyone recommend a good local cab service? Thanks!

The 48 South Lindbergh bus runs north from Kirkwood ro Des Peres - Where is DP do you need to go? If it is off of Manchester you will need to change buses

48 South Lindbergh Bus Route Information | Metro Transit

If it is too far off of Lindbergh or Manchester call county cab - they will pick up at the station

County Cab | Yellow Cab St. Louis Taxi Service

no Uber yet in StL - troubles with the taxi commission

OT, thank you for the quick response! I'm headed to the vicinity of Des Peres Rd and Wyndham Crossings Cir, just a few blocks north of Des Peres Hospital.

Hmmm, just reviewed the 48 bus route - probably not gonna work. I'll give County Cab a call. Thanks again!

Yeah, that's a pretty isolated destination; you'll definitely want some form of automobile to get there.

Note that if you somehow miss the transfer to Kirkwood due to delay, you have a few other options as the STL downtown station is located at a MetroLink station and bus transfer point. It's about 15 miles, you can just cab it (about $35; there's a taxi stand at the station), or you can take MetroLink and transfer to bus. I'd suggest just using Google Maps or equivalent, filtered to Public Transit. Input destination as "Meramec College" (STL community college on Big Bend) or "West County Shopping" (shopping mall), and take whatever route is suggested (probably MetroLink to Maplewood stop, transfer to 57; or MetroLink to Shrewsbury, transfer to 21). Both are near your destination, then you can cab the final mile as planned.

But hopefully you'll be on time and that won't be an issue!

What great info, thank you. I actually was picked up from the downtown Amtrak station by a friend on Friday, but this information will definitely be used for my next visit.

Well, that's the easiest way! Well, actually, visiting a friend who lives across the street from Amtrak is probably the easiest way. Anyway, hope you had a lovely trip! Maybe you can come back when they finish the express track upgrades.
