What is Maryland Heights like for living - convenience to necessary stores, cost-wise, public transportation, environment, etc. Just generally where a person alone would want to live? Thanks.

Maryland Heights is a suburban area - mostly families. All your major chains are easily accessible. Public transit would be buses only in that area. The Metro Link doesn't go out that way. You'll find most of St. Louis a car is preferable, but public transit is there.

It's a mid-grade suburb - not cheap, not high class. It's a safe area. Creve Coeur Park is right there and it's lovely.

It's not a place to live if you're looking for a thriving night life, but there is nightlife close enough.

Sounds like my kind of place. Thank you. Truth to tell, I do not care for the Metro Link. Heights make me nervous. I'll take a bus any day.

Appreciate your reply.

Aside from the southern portion of the Cross-County line, I can't think of where MetroLink is any higher than a bus.

Maybe that's where it was - the one I rode with friends. We definitely caught it in South County but I can't think of the name of the station now. I never rode it again. I know it went across a trestle high above streets and buildings.

I think that stretch is between Sunnen and Shrewsbury, not positive. It makes me a little nervous too. In any case, catch the MetroLink at Brentwood next time and you shouldn't have any problems, it's pretty much at ground level or below past there (and it's convenient to Maryland Heights, etc. anyway).

Right. Shrewsbury. I couldn't think of it. I don't mind buses when they are available. Been riding busses all my life.

That's great! Just keep in mind that coverage is sparse and tends to have departures every 40 minutes or so off-peak. If you're counting on navigating without a car regularly you might want to consider living somewhere denser, depending on your patience.

That's how it is in this area. #48 on Lindbergh runs about every 45 minutes even in rush hour. 110 runs from 6:00 AM to 8:30 AM, stops for the day, runs again from 4:00 to either 6:00 or 7:00 PM. Not sure which. I think the one on Watson runs a bit more often; not sure. But first you have to get to Watson - two miles away. Down here, we walk - something else I've always done. Love walking.

Maryland Heights is okay, I guess. It lacks a general store like Wal-Mart or Target though. The apartments are mostly subpar and definitely don't rent from Mills Properties since they have the neighborhood's most scathing reviews.

Maryland Heights is right beside Creve Couer, which is much better. Even though Creve Coeur also lacks a general store, it has a large variety of small stores where you should be able to get most of what you need. The downside is the frequent traffic jams, but that's part of being such a popular place. However, it's more costly to live there. If you can afford it move to Creve Couer instead.
