Maybe you can answer something that I've been wondering for a long time.

Why is East St. Louis so crappy?
Anybody would think that people would try to develop East St. Louis because it is so close to downtown St. Louis and with a perfect view of the St. Louis arch.

Has anybody tried to develop that area into something nice besides that casino on East St. Louis?

The area is good real estate, sure, but it would take more than one developer. We're talking extreme crime, horrific poverty and deserted streets.

That can't just change, no matter what you do. There's a major stigma attached to the area as well, so even if some group could demolish the whole area, get rid of the crime and build condos, people wouldn't buy them.
